Join hosts Jen Sieradzki, Native Plant Horticulture Manager, and Emily Dunlap, Native Plant Horticulturist, for a tour of the recently opened Ozark Ethnobotany Garden at Shaw Nature Reserve.
Adjacent to the celebrated Whitmire Wildflower Garden, Shaw Nature Reserve's new Ozark Ethnobotany Garden features more than 120 plant species, and aims to illuminate how native plant knowledge connects historic and modern peoples across time. Jen will explain the design and installation process of the garden, highlight how Missouri native plants can be used for fiber, food, medicine, and dye, and provide information on traditional heirloom and orchard species also featured in the garden. Participants will visit the head house growing area and workspaces, and then visit the Whitmire Wildflower Garden's new rock terrace landscape for the second leg of the guided tour.
