Seven $500 scholarships are up for grabs this fall.
2025 Scholarship Recipient
The primary intent of this scholarship program is to provide financial aid to support the pursuit of education by individuals intending to professionally practice in the green industry within the St. Louis region. The LNAGSL recognizes and appreciates the value to our organization, the professional green industry and the communities of the region by encouraging the development of knowledgeable and talented individuals.
Eligible applicants are students working in the green industry within the St. Louis region who are pursuing continuing education, as well as students enrolled in college or university green industry programs who intend to work in the region. Examples of green industry programs include, but are not limited to; horticulture, sustainable agriculture, botany, environmental science, landscape architecture, and soil science. Applicants must show proof of current enrollment or enrollment in the next semester (allowing high school students to apply) with a university or community college green industry program. Applicants pursuing adult continuing education or other program types (i.e.: botanical garden classes) are not eligible.

In 2026, we are happy to announce that we are able to award four $500 scholarships to horticulture students in the Greater St. Louis area this spring. We will also award seven additional $500 scholarships this fall. This is made possible by generous donations from our members as well as fundraising by our board members throughout the year. We appreciate any contribution you can make to horticulture education.

The Legacy of John L. Masek (1929-2021)
The History and Purpose of the John L. Masek Green Industry Scholarship
The John L. Masek Green Industry Scholarship honors the legacy of a respected horticulturist, industry leader, and mentor whose dedication helped shape the green industry in the St. Louis region. John L. Masek was a longtime member and officer of the St. Louis Landscape and Nurserymen’s Association (now LNAGSL) and was widely recognized for his service to the profession and his encouragement of students entering the horticulture field. In recognition of his many years of leadership and commitment to mentoring future horticulturists, LNAGSL members voted unanimously in 2004 to name the association’s scholarship program in his honor. A commemorative plaque was presented to Mr. Masek that same year. Today, the scholarship continues his legacy by supporting students pursuing education and careers in ornamental horticulture, landscape management, nursery production, and related green industry fields. Through this award, LNAGSL seeks to encourage academic achievement, professional development, and the next generation of leaders who will advance the horticulture profession. "The John L. Masek Scholarship serves as a lasting tribute to a man whose passion for horticulture and dedication to mentoring others continue to inspire students and professionals alike."
